A Day in the Life of with India

My 8am to 4pm as a HR Officer – From to do lists to ticked off

Working in a consultancy, no two days are ever the same, but to give you a snapshot of behind the scenes as a HR Officer, this is what my typical Monday tends to look like:

8am - 9:00am – Emails, Calendar Check & To-Do List

My first task of the day is always getting, Coffee, and organised!

We manage several inboxes across different clients, so the morning begins with checking each one, responding to any urgent messages, flagging anything that needs further action, then reviewing my calendar and making sure the week is mapped out. I’ll then write a fresh to-do list for the week. I love a to-do list! This helps me prioritise urgent items and visualise my capacity for the week. I try to keep all meetings scheduled for after 9am wherever possible. That first hour gives me space to clear the decks, have a quick catch-up with colleagues, align on priorities and share updates.

9am-12noon: My To-Do List Power Hour

Once my emails are cleared and priorities lined up, mid-morning becomes prime time to focus and tick off some tasks from my to-do list by getting stuck into focused client work. This can be anything from client calls, meetings with employees, writing / updating policies, reviewing company documents, co-ordinating payroll, working on wellbeing projects or preparing for meetings / larger tasks.

12 – Lunch (and a quick walk!)

1pm – 3pm Getting Things Done

After lunch (and a quick walk to reset), I tackle some of my larger tasks. Using the morning to clear the decks really helps me focus in the afternoon and make progress on bigger projects. Any urgent matters that have come up throughout the day are always prioritised, so nothing important slips through the cracks.

3pm-4pm Wrapping Up

By mid-afternoon, I like to go back and catch up on any emails I didn’t get back to this morning, follow up on any outstanding tasks, and start planning for the next few days. This is the perfect time to update records, stay organised, tie up any ongoing tasks and make sure I’ve responded to clients / queries for the day.

4pm – Home Time!!

And that’s a wrap! Behind the scenes working in a HR consultancy as a HR officer. It’s fast-paced, varied, incredibly rewarding …. and yes, my to-do list is the heart and soul of my day!
